A Lebanese Food Extravaganza
| November 28, 2011 | Posted by Nada under Food |
I know I’ve said this before – but I will continue to re-iterate this until it stops being true (AKA never): when it comes to Arab cuisine, Lebanese food reigns supreme. I mean seriously – what’s not to love? First of all, even though hummus is popular all over the Middle East, to me, hummus… Read more
Classic Chocolate Chip Pancakes

When I have multiple recipes to share in my arsenal, my internal dialogue goes a little something like this: Pancakes? Or muffins? Pancakes? Pancakes. Mmm, pancakes. Enough said. So a little story to preface this recipe. When I woke up yesterday I was determined to make chocolate chip pancakes. Thanks to some pre-emptive… Read more
Vegan MoFo #6: Lemon Blueberry Protein Pancakes
| October 9, 2011 | Posted by Nada under Recipes |
We interrupt this MoFo theme to bring you a truly delicious helping of lemon-blueberry bliss. So pancakes aren’t exactly a breakfast staple in the Middle East, however I made these for the roommate today and they were just too good not to share. It should be noted that they’re still vegan and are far more… Read more
Vegan Mofo #3: Molasses with Tahini Soft-Serve
| October 5, 2011 | Posted by Nada under Recipes |
Glad to see everyone enjoyed yesterday’s healthy Vegan spin on Egyptian stuffed veggies, quinoa stuffed mahshi. Today I’m tackling another Egyptian favourite: Asal wi Tahina, otherwise known as Molasses with Tahini. Sugar cane molasses and tahini are mixed to create a creamy dip which is traditionally eaten with pita bread, either as part of breakfast… Read more
Molasses with Tahini Flavoured Soft-Serve
- 1 large frozen banana
- 1 heaping T of tahini
- 1-2t date molasses*
- some chopped walnuts and dates
*(I prefer the taste of date molasses but this works equally well with sugar cane or even carob molasses, which is the way they have it in Lebanon)
Follow the original recipe for banana soft-serve but add in the tahini while blending along with the chopped walnuts.
Top with a good drizzle of date molasses, chopped dates some more walnuts.
I dare you not to love this combination of flavours. If you don’t have any molasses on hand try making this with just tahini, or top your morning banana with a drizzle of tahini – trust me, this is not to be missed.
If you want to try tahini and molasses as a spread, just add molasses and tahini in equal amounts to a small mixing bowl, mix until marbled, and enjoy with toasted pita bread. I personally prefer a nuttier spread, so I add a little more tahini – but it’s delicious either way.
